Isothermal Rural Planning Organization

About the RPO

The Isothermal Rural Planning Organization (RPO) is a patrnership between North Carolina's Department of Transportation (NCDOT) and the local governments of McDowell, Polk and Rutherford Counties (Cleveland County is a member of the Lake Norman RPO).  Staffed by IPDC, the RPO serves as the transportation planning authority for the region.

Our Priority Projects for the coming years
Every year the RPO creates a list of high priority projects for the region.  Here is the list for the upcoming TIP.  This is the current TIP for the region.
Also the region is hoping to recieve any possible funds from an infrastructure stimulus package.  It has created this list of projects that could be ready in 90 days or less.

Our short history

Established in 2002, the RPO is legislated with the following core duties:
     Provide a forum for public involvement in transportation planning activities;
     Develop and prioritize projects, the region's governmments feel should be included in the State's Transportation Improvement Program (TIP);
     Develop long range transportation plans in cooperation with NCDOT;
     Provide transportation-related information to local governments and interested parties.

Transportation Planning often has its own lingo.
     The NCARPO has developed this website to help the general public better understand transportation lingo.

The Isothermal RPO Staff has established a blog to help give you a behind the scenes look at the chaos that is.  The blog is still under construction and will be updated regularly.
